Newsday: Syria

Assalamu Alaikum,

For today's news, I picked a country which has had alot of turmoil in the past few years: Syria.

On Sunday March 6, 2016, a rocket struck a neighborhood in Aleppo which killed 13 civilians and wounded 40. News agencoes say that the attack by “terrorists” occurred in Kurdish, the neighborhood of Sheik Maqsoud which has been the target of insurgent shelling for many days. The observatory said that the shells were fired by insurgents and the cease-fire gas brought a rapid drop in violence to most of Syria. Russia and the U.S are both trying to convince the two sides to return to U.N peace negotiations in Geneva next week. Russian Foreign Minister, Sergey Lavrov and U.S Secretary of State John Kerry gave a “general positive assessment of the progress toward securing the cease-fire in Syria, which is being generally observed and already has led to a sharp decrease in the level of violence.” Much less aid than anticipated went to the besieged areas since the cease-fire began and it has been noted that there has been “significant improvement” in humanitarian access.

The war in Syria has been going on for many, many years. Recent events have not become news anymore. Nevertheless, it is very important to be updating with the conditions in Syria. We need to realize taht if we cant do anything physically to help those in Syria, we need to be aware of what is going on, and make dua to Allah (SWT) to help our Muslims brotehrs and sisters.

If you have any suggestions for next week's news, please leave a message for us, and I will work on it.

~Maham
